The competition took place on Monday 8 December in front of an esteemed panel including Daniel Harding, Mauro Bucarelli, Xian Zhang, Lennox Mackenzie and Patrick Harrild.
The finalists tackle an ambitious programme including Beethoven's dramatic Egmont overture. There's also a neo-classical symphony by Stravinsky written shortly after his move to the USA in the 1940s, full of intricate rhythms that will keep competitors on their toes. Rimsky-Korsakov’s colourful symphonic fantasy inspired by the 1001 Nights completes an evening of excitement and challenge.
