Katie has long been a classical music lover - she was once a choirgirl. She loves the pianist Yundi, “because he makes my heart sing when he plays,” she says. And her favourite concert was a children’s concert given by the twelve cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic a few years back. “It was a cracker. Proved, too, that classical music doesn’t have to be stuffy and distant.”
Her all-time favourite piece is O Vos Omnes by Pablo Casals. It was introduced to her when she sang for a short while with the choir at St Alfege in Greenwich.
While she’s keeping you company with the world’s greatest music through the night, Katie is still nursing a longtime musical ambition.
“I always wanted to learn to play the harp. A few years ago I got in touch with a teacher, and nearly started having lessons. Then I looked at the price of an instrument,” she says.
