The programme for the evening features music by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Rossini, Puccini… and, of course, Tchaikovsky.
The winner of the piano category, which has launched the careers of the likes of Peter Donohoe and Vladimir Ashkenazt, was Russian Dmitry Masleev. The cello category was won by Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță while the violin silver medal (no gold was awarded) was taken by Yu-Chien Tseng from Taiwan.
We went to Tchaikovsky's house and a world-class pianist performed on the composer's piano for us
In the voice categories, mezzo-soprano Yulia Matochkina and baritone Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar took first prize in the female and male categories. And you can hear them all perform in the concert above.
