The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has awarded violinist Nicola Benedetti with an honorary degree.
She was joined by actress Barbara Dickson as well as actor-director David Hayman, broadcaster Richard Holloway and artistic director of Scottish Ballet Ashley Page.
Born in West Kilbride to an Italian father and Scottish mother, the 25-year-old Benedetti took up the violin at the age of five and scooped the Young Classical Brit award in 2008.
She has released five acclaimed albums and played with a number of internationally renowned orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Opera and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra among others.
She is scheduled to make her debut at the Edinburgh International Festival this year when she performs the complete Szymanowski and Brahms symphonies. She is also due to open the main stage at T in the Park festival in Kinross this Sunday, July 8.
