Plans to renovate the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall by 2015 took a step closer to reaching their target with the appointment of architects Caruso St. John. They will lead a design team towards a major refurbishment of the 1939 Grade II-listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
The work will be made possible after the Liverpool Philharmonic successfully secured seed funding of £634,000 from the Arts Council of England (ACE). The immediate focus of the work will be on improving the audience experience in the auditorium and front of house areas, developing the artists’ backstage area and stage, and increasing the venue’s sustainability.
The Liverpool Philharmonic still has some way to go and has set an ambition for the refurbishment project of up to £10million. In addition to building to making a further application to the ACE, it will also seek to raise funds, investment and additional support from a variety of private and public sources over the next two years.
