The winner of the Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Instrumental, violist Kim Kashkashian, caused confusion as the announcement was made on Sunday night.
The worlds of both celebrity and classical music were somewhat confused at the annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, as it emerged that reality TV star and mother to Kanye West's unborn child Kim Kardashian (pictured) won the award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo with a disc of Ligeti works.
Either Kardashian had kept her love of classical music a secret in recent years, or something had gone wrong. As it happened, the award actually went to Kim Kashkashian, a fellow Armenian and a classical violist with a remarkably similar name to the TV star.
However, press and public alike were confused by the similarity, and the award's announcement caused a flurry of activity on Twitter. One tweeter posted: "'Best Classical Instrumental Solo winner - Kim Kashkashian' I read this so wrong", while violist Jennifer Stumm tweeted: "A violist wins a Grammy! Kim Kashkashian is so much cooler than Kim Kardashian. So proud of her!"
The Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo was won last year by Giancarlo Guerrero, whose name is thankfully not similar to any reality TV stars.
