Star French cellist was surprised on stage when the entire cello section of the orchestra played his solo along with him.
Dvořák’s great Cello Concerto is known for its iconic, full throttle, sonorous opening for the solo instrument. However, in this rehearsal, soloist might have been a little surprised by the level of sound he produced.
The Vienna-based Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra was rehearsing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto under the baton of Lorenzo Viotti. Joining them for the occasion was the dashing French cellist Gautier Capuçon, taking soloist honors
The orchestra’s cello section decided to play the most heart-warming prank. As Capuçon’s solo entry began, the entire cello section joined in and played together in unison.
Capuçon posted the evidence of his subversive sectional on his Instagram, with a message: “When the entire cello section surprises you, again!…What an amazing sound!!!”
And now all those young musicians can tell their friends of the time they played a solo with Gautier Capuçon.
