The actor, who plays Gollum in Lord of the Rings, believes video games are taking their rightful place alongside film.
Alongside Ned Flanders, Gollum counts himself as a Classic FM listener - and he's a fan of video games and their soundtracks. Following John Suchet playing Aerith's Theme from the Final Fantasy Series on Friday morning, he shared his thoughts on the state of the genre.
Speaking to the Guardian, he said: "I was listening to Classic FM this morning and the third top-ranked piece of music created uproar, because it was from a video game. It just goes to show where convergence is at.
Video game technology and video games are acknowledged by Bafta now, and are rightly getting credit for what they are, which is extraordinary pieces of art."
Video game soundtracks currently rank highly in the Classic FM Hall of Fame, with Jeremy Soule's The Elder Scrolls series at No. 5 and the Final Fantasy series by Nobuo Uematsu at No. 3. The soundtrack to Lord of the Rings sits at No. 20.
