Critical care nurse plays the piano and sings “we will rise up”
With NHS staff working around the clock during the coronavirus outbreak, this talented nurse decided to lift people’s spirits through the power of music...
A coronavirus critical care nurse is bringing joy to fellow hospital staff on the frontline by singing and playing the piano.
In the video (watch above), we hear NHS nurse Hannah sing a poignant cover of Andra Day’s ‘Rise Up’ to her colleagues at Royal Papworth Hospital Charity in Cambridge, keeping spirits high as they continue to treat patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally released in 2015, the song’s uplifting chorus made it an instant hit: “And I’ll rise up, I’ll rise like the day, I’ll rise up, I’ll rise unafraid, I’ll rise up, and I’ll do it a thousand times again.”
Now, Day’s words and Hannah’s performance are a powerful message of hope to friends and loved ones, at a rare time of global uncertainty.

We love our NHS 💙💙 She doesn’t know I’m posting this but I was sent this today by my beautiful sister who is training as a nurse in the critical care unit at the Royal Papworth Hospital. During one of her breaks she went downstairs to play this on the piano and has called it: “We’ll Rise Up: a song from the NHS to the public” and one of her colleagues asked her to film it. She is an example of one of the millions of positive, beautiful people working hard at this incredibly difficult time and hopefully this video will put a smile on your face and bring a bit of hope and positivity. Here is a reminder to keep spreading the love at this terribly stressful time! Share around because I think everyone should see this. We’ll rise up!! Credit for song: Andra Day

The moving performance comes as many other doctors and A&E nurses record musical tributes for heroic hospital staff, as the world continues to fight coronavirus.
