92-year-old Emlyn Morris is a passionate choral music fan, but he thought he’d never have the chance to hear a choir again. This Welsh choir decided to surprise him…

Emlyn’s carer Claire James discovered that Emlyn, who has a brain tumour and has been given only months to live, was a choral music fan. So she decided to organise a surprise performance for Emlyn in the garden of his Cardiff home.

Claire said: “I want to make him happy and I asked him, would he like to hear a choir again and he said “Yeah I would, but it’s not going to happen” and I thought, I don’t know about that, I’m sure I can make it happen.”

The Aber Valley Choir came to Cardiff for the private performance and performed a number of pieces including the hymn ‘How Great Thou Art’.

But the surprise didn't end there – the star mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins also sent Emlyn a special message saying, “Your family absolutely adore you and if you go out into the garden they’ve arranged a very special musical surprise for you. I’m sorry I can’t be there, but I’m there in spirit.”

Choir master, Geraint Evans, said: “We were more than happy to do it, especially when I found out that Emlyn had been a neighbour of my parents and grandparents.”

Emlyn's nephew Mark Harrison filmed the whole moving performance – and you can even see Emlyn singing along with the choir!
