Countertenors are the enigma of the singing world: the mysterious, high male voices who manage to reach the lofty heights of a range altos can only dream of.

But how different do they sound from female singers? We’ve put together a few clips of countertenors and mezzo sopranos singing – and it’s your job to guess which is which.
