Watch Mahler's epic Symphony No. 2, live from the Verbier Festival

This weekend, treat yourself to some magical Mahler, live from the Swiss alps, at one of the world's finest classical music festivals.

The Verbier Festival takes place every year in the stunning setting of the Swiss alps. It attracts some of the biggest names in classical music, as maestros, students, and music-lovers alike take in the alpine air and the good coffee, and enjoy an idyllic mountain village that’s overflowing in music.

And in general, they are surroundings that cry out for music. Here's the brilliant violinist Sumina Studer:

2019's festival has featured some incredible music: Richard Strauss under the baton of Valery Gergiev, thundering Rachmaninov from Denis Matsuev, and Bach and Bartok from András Schiff. And here you're never far from a concert by the like of cellist Mischa Maisky or violinist Joshua Bell.

The 2019 festival is brought to a close on 3 August with Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 'Resurrection', conducted by Fabio Luisi with the festival orchestra and star soloists.
