The music for Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic retains its position at the top of the chart for the second year running after last year toppling 2009’s no.1 Star Wars. These three magnificent, symphonic and choral scores were a towering achievement for Shore, who wove more than 80 specific musical motifs through the movies, representing Middle Earth’s creatures and cultures. World-class instrumental and vocal soloists also made their mark on Shore’s sound world.
