Mezzo-soprano Catriona Morison has a fair few competitions under her belt, so when we caught up with her at the Edinburgh International Festival we asked her to share some words of wisdom
Catriona Morison is one of today’s most exciting singers. Fresh from a performance of music by Brahms in Edinburgh, we asked her to to share some advice for tackling nerve-wracking competitions:
“I think competitions are very important for young singers,” she said. “They certainly weren’t my favourite thing to do, I’m not very competitive.”
But she had this advice:
“Just go in and try to show where you are technically, where you are in your singing career so far and just be yourself, that’s the most important thing.
“The most important thing in music is to have a personality and to let that shine through when you’re performing.”
Catriona had been performing in the beautiful Queen's Theatre as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.
