Classic FM Album of the Week, starting Monday 16 November 2015 after 10am
With the next instalment in the Star Wars franchise almost upon us, this release from Decca brings together some of the best tunes from John Williams's score conducted by the composer himself.
While we wait for the soundtrack to Star Wars: Episode VII - the Force Awakens, this album dispenses hit after hit after hit to remind us why Williams is the most celebrated film music composer of his time.
This space-themed double album includes a couple of other spacey soundtracks by Williams - ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind - as well as some intergalactic favourites from other composers, such as Holst's The Planets.
The Boston Pops Orchestra is in its element playing these crowd-pleasing classics under Williams's baton - just watch them all having an amazing time playing the main theme from Star Wars in an archive YouTube video...
