CD of the week: Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 3

This disc is the final installment in the BIS label's Tchaikovsky symphony cycle, with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme Jarvi.

When embarking on the cycle, Jarvi was keen to avoid being overly sentimental with Tchaikovsky's music - and the result is a very raw, energetic sound, demonstrated clearly by the main work on this disc, Symphony No.3 ('Polish').

These are thrilling performances which you'll hear on Classic FM every morning, just after 10am.

Alongside the symphony, we also get excerpts from Eugene Onegin and some intriguingly-titled works - Dmitri the Pretender and Vassily Shuisky - for instance!
