Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No.1 - Daniel Trifonov/Mariinsky Orchestra/Valery Gergiev
Spirited version from Russia of the great piano concerto. Classic FM Drive Featured Album, 13 January 2014.
The young Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov has been making quite a name for himself, winning several major international piano competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein competition in Tel Aviv, the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
He's played with all the world's major orchestras and conductors and now brings his brilliance to Tchaikovsky's first Piano Concerto with Valery Gergiev marshalling the Mariinsky Orchestra.
As Martha Argerich once said of this remarkable young pianist, "he has everything and more. What he does with his hands is technically incredible. It’s also his touch – he has tenderness and also the demonic element." All of that is evident on this recording.
