Elements of the two forerunners reappear in snatches in The Return of the King: the anxious Two Towers theme, the heroic Fellowship and rustic Shire themes, the latter nimbly weaving its way back in as the epic tale ends. This time Renée Fleming and Annie Lennox assist the LPO, in a dramatic team effort of edge-of-seat crescendos and thoughtful adagios. Magnificent.
