Although I wouldn’t part with Rutter’s recordings of his Gloria and Magnificat, this new album from King’s College, Cambridge, proves a real winner, capitalising on the legendary King’s acoustics. The Gloria’s bold ceremonial opening contrasts beautifully here with the work’s central ‘Domine Deus’ movement. These texts both demand and receive exemplary craftsmanship and imagination from composer and performers.
