Conrad Pope's week with Marilyn
Last week saw the release of the star-studded new British drama My Week With Marilyn. Tasked with providing music for the film was Conrad Pope.
Set in the summer of 1956, My Week With Marilyn stars Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe who meets Colin Clarke (Eddie Redmayne), an assistant on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl. Clark and Monroe spend a week together, during which time Clark introduces Monroe to British life as she escapes from her Hollywood routine. The film also features the cream of British talent including Kenneth Branagh, Dame Judi Dench, Emma Watson and Derek Jacobi.
Along with Conrad Pope's original score the My Week With Marilyn soundtrack also features compositions from Alexander Desplat and performances by the popular pianist Lang Lang.
Classic FM's Lucy Coward spoke to Conrad about how these collaborations came together and the challenges of capturing the spirit of the 50s in his score.
