The young Taiwanese-Australian violinist tackles Mozart. Album of the Weekend, 1-2 February 2014.
Since winning the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin Competition in 2008, Ray Chen has established himself as one of the world’s most exciting young violinists. The great Maxim Vengerov recently described Chen as 'a very pure musician with great qualities such as a beautiful youthful tone, vitality and lightness. He has all the skills of a truly musical interpreter.'
On this, his first all-Mozart album, Chen performs two of the composer’s violin concertos, together with an orchestra of exceptional young instrumentalists who come together for the annual Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in northern Germany. It's a joyful, cheery reading which shows off Chen's virtuoso playing at its best.
