It’s been an extraordinary 12 months for the contemporary composer Paul Mealor. Last April, the Professor of Music from Aberdeen University, saw his music performed at the Royal Wedding.
In December, his song Wherever You Are, performed by the Military Wives, took the top spot in the Christmas Top 40 pop chart and just a few weeks ago, his new recording with the Military Wives knocked Bruce Springsteen off the top of the UK album chart! Then, Wherever You Are became the highest new entry in the Classic FM Hall of Fame, storming in to the No.5 spot in the public voted classical music chart on the Easter Weekend.
In an exclusive interview, Paul talks to Nick Ferrari about his musical inspirations and his newly-found fame, as well as giving us a preview of what he’s got planned for the rest of 2012.
