Ludwig Göransson is a film composer, conductor, and record producer, best known for his Oscar-winning scores to Black Panther (2018), and Oppenheimer (2023).
He began his career writing music for television series, including Community, New Girl, and The Mandalorian.
Göransson’s first score for a feature film was Fruitvale Station in 2013, after Ryan Coogler, a fellow alumni from the University of Southern California, approached him with the gig. The pair went on to collaborate on Creed in 2015, and again for a third time on Black Panther in 2018.
To create the soundtrack, Göransson travelled to Senegal and South Africa for research, encountering musicians and instruments that would shape his score. His work on this film earned him his first Oscar and Grammy Award for best score.
Göransson returned to write music for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022, and in 2023 swept awards season with his brilliant score to Oppenheimer, earning him his second Oscar as well as a BAFTA and Golden Globe.
Whilst working on Community in 2009, Göransson met the actor Donald Glover, also known by his rap alter ego, Childish Gambino. The two have since collaborated on four of Gambino’s albums, notably on his hit singles ‘Redbone’ and ‘This is America’, for which they won two Grammy Awards.
