21st performance of Jenkins' Euphonium Concerto
Welsh euphonium soloist David Childs has given his 21st performance of Karl Jenkins’ Euphonium Concerto, only a year since its premiere.
Childs premiered Jenkins’ Euphonium Concerto in summer 2009 and has since performed it twenty more times, as far afield as Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Arizona and Hawaii. Highlights have included broadcast performances with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Sinfonia Cymru, and two performances in New York’s Carnegie Hall, the first of which was conducted by Karl Jenkins himself.
On Saturday 14 August 2010, Childs performed the Concerto for the 21st time, in his homeland, at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, with Cory Band and his father, conductor Robert Childs. The concert was recorded for broadcast on Welsh tevelevision channel S4C.
David has another performance of Jenkins’ Concerto scheduled in Toronto, and he will give Christian Lindberg’s Concerto for Euphonium and Chamber Orchestra its first UK performamance at the opening of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s new £20 million concert hall.
