James Horner: Braveheart
Packed with whistles and pipes galore, James Horner's Celtic-inspired score contains some of his most haunting melodies.
Released: 1995
Director: Mel Gibson
Cast: Mel Gibson, Sophie Marceau and Patrick McGoohan
The Film: Braveheart is the story of an ordinary man, William Wallace, and his quest to overthrow English rule. After losing many of his loved ones trying to free Scotland, Wallace (Gibson) unites the 13th-century Scots in their battle to defeat the English once and for all, along with the assistance of Robert the Bruce.
The Score: James Horner is best known for his clever integration of choral and electronic elements in many of his film scores, and for his frequent use of traditional Irish musical influences as heard in his multiple award-winning score for Titanic in 1987. However, Horner actually trained at the Royal College of Music in London before he moved to California and got his first big movie in 1982, Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan.
