Radiohead guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood has posted online from his rehearsals with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, contrary to reports from Sao Paulo saying that he had fled to Brazil to await the Mayan apocalypse.
Jonny Greenwood is currently rehearsing with the Australian Contemporary Orchestra in Sydney, according to a post on Radiohead's website. Local media in Sao Paolo, Brazil, had previously reported that he had arrived in South America in anticipation of the Mayan apocalypse, due on December 21st.
Greenwood posted: "Just a few weeks left of the residency with the australian chamber orchestra - who are amazing. Hope the resulting music is worth all the trust they've put in me. Thanks, gut-scratchers...."
He also posted a link to NASA's website, which contains information on why the Mayan prediction is likely to be incorrect.
Greenwood performed with the ACO earlier this month at The Standard in Sydney, in a programme that included Steve Reich's 'Counterpoint'. He has also been commissioned to compose more music for the ensemble.
