The Bohemian Album
All this week, a new recording of the music of Dvorak as his excuse to champion the composer’s beautiful Serenade for Strings.
Composed in 1875 after a generous financial gift from a commission in Vienna, the work is full of soaring melodies and rich orchestral sounds. And this performance from the Amsterdam Sinfonietta really brings the piece to life.
The Bohemian Album is so-called because all the composers featured on the disc had their roots in Bohemia – an area richly influenced by folk music.
