Bach: Joshua Bell/Academy of St. Martin in the Fields
Joshua Bell brings the music of his beloved Bach vividly to life. Classic FM Drive Featured Album, 6 October 2014.
As a follow up to last year's acclaimed and chart-topping Beethoven album, Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell continues as Music Director and conductor of the world-renowned Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
On their new collaboration, this time with Bell also as a soloist, he conducts ASMF from the leader’s chair in an all-Bach programme.
This album came in at No.2 in Classic FM's Album of the Year 2014. See the full chart here >
It's the first time that Bell has recorded Bach's music which is a bit of a surprise since he has championed it for so long. "Bach's music makes you feel alive and it tells you about life and about the world in a way that nothing else can," Bell says. "Bach manages to take you through the entire range of human emotion."
That certainly shows through in the range of feelings he conveys through his marvellous playing and the fizzing, well-balanced accompaniment from the band which he so ably directs.
