Bach: Lisa Batiashvili
The Georgian violinist with some world première recordings from the Bach family. John Suchet's Album of the Week, 21 July 2014
One of the rising stars of classical music, Lisa Batiashvili explores the music of J.S. Bach and his son C.P.E. Bach. The album features the first ever recording of C.P.E.'s Trio Sonata in B flat minor for violin, flute and basso continuo. This dazzling piece sees Lisa teaming up with the great flautist Emmanuel Pahud.
This album came in at No.17 in Classic FM's Album of the Year 2014. See the full chart here >
There's also the world première recording of J.S. Bach’s famous aria 'Erbarme Dich, mein Gott' from the St. Matthew Passion, in a transcription for violin, oboe and orchestra. In it, Batiashvili duets with her husband, the celebrated oboist Francois Leleux. It's a startling arrangement which more than communicates what this music means to the couple, as well as what they mean to each other.
Batiashvili always plays with precision, emotion and a beautifully pure tone, and brings a modern, heartfelt sound to some Bach family masterpieces.
