Adès, today’s hottest young British composer, proves himself a fabulous pianist in these spirited performances. If you’re wary of contemporary music, Adès’s Piano Quintet should still be enough to fascinate you. It’s complicated yet hypnotic, imaginative and intriguingly listenable. As for the ‘Trout’, the players bound through it with such verve, vigour and sheer love that most others pale in comparison.
