Sojourn - The Very Best of Xuefei Yang
John Brunning's own compositions appear on the Beijing-born guitarist's new album. Classic FM Drive Featured Album, 11 November 2013.
Xuefei Yang's career has been characterised by 'firsts'. She was the first-ever guitarist in China to enter a music school; then she became the first Chinese Guitarist to launch an international professional career; and went on to become the first Chinese student to be awarded a full postgraduate scholarship to study at London’s Royal Academy of Music.
Fei has also dedicated herself to expanding the guitar repertoire with her own arrangements and commissioning new compositions, in particular those by Chinese composers.
Following her recent acclaimed appearance on Ian Bostridge’s Britten Songs, she's released Sojourn, a compilation featuring a wide range of pieces - from classical to popular, taking in Chinese works and a new concerto she commissioned along the way.
Some of the tracks have been released before on her previous recordings, but there are seven new 'firsts' included, among them Romance No.1 and Sahara, both composed by Classic FM's own drivetime presenter John Brunning.
A comprehensive and attractive introduction to the fine musicianship of one of classical music's bright young stars.
