Stephen Hough, born November 22nd 1961 on the Wirral, is a celebrated classical pianist as well as an accomplished composer.
Like all successful international performers, much of Stephen’s life has been spent on the road. He has appeared regularly with most of the major American orchestras, and with numerous European orchestras under conductors including Abbado, Ashkenazy, Dohnányi, Dutoit, Gergiev, Fischer, Jarvi, Levine, Oramo and Rattle to name but a few.
He often gives piano recitals in major halls and series all over the world alongside high profile friends such as Steven Isserlis, Joshua Bell, Tabea Zimmerman and Michael Collins, and has been a frequent guest at many festivals including Aspen, Ravinia, Tanglewood, Blossom, Hollywood Bowl, Mostly Mozart, Edinburgh, Salzburg, Sapporo and the BBC Proms.
In 1978 he was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Awards.
Stephen has an extensive catalogue of around forty recordings, many of which have won international prizes such as the Diapason d’Or, the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, Classic CD and Gramophone Awards.
Stephen is also a keen writer and has provided many of the liner notes for his recordings and his essays have received critical praise.
