CD of the Week: Sol Gabetta: Cantabile
This week's pick is Sol Gabetta - Cantabile.
Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta makes her instrument sing on her new album, Cantabile.
Many the tracks on this CD are arrangements of vocal works - from favourites like the Seguidilla from Carmen through to rarely-heard but beautiful melodies by the likes of Gounod, Tchaikovsky and Delibes.
Gabetta was born in Cordoba in 1981, winning her first performing competition at the age of ten. She shot to international fame in 2004 when making her debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Valery Gergiev; on this new recording she's accompanied by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
