29 April 2018, 12:27
It was the first-ever Facebook Live from the Sistine Chapel - and you can watch every beautiful note.
On Sunday at 5pm UK time, The Sixteen and the Britten Sinfonia performed Sir James MacMillan's Stabat mater, surrounded by Michelangelo's stunning frescos in the Sistine Chapel.
With the Genesis Foundation, Classic FM was delighted to present the first ever Facebook Live concert from the Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. If you missed the broadcast on Sunday, you're able to watch it in full for the next month.
The Sixteen (who are the official Voices of Classic FM), the Britten Sinfonia and conductor Harry Christophers performed Sir James MacMillan’s Stabat mater - a powerful setting of a 13th-century Catholic hymn to Mary, portraying the suffering of a mother during his crucifixion. The hour-long work has been hailed as a modern masterpiece and a recording released on The Sixteen’s label, CORO, was shortlisted for a 2017 Gramophone Award.
