Sheku Kanneh-Mason is a brilliant cellist from Nottingham, UK and one of today’s most in-demand classical musicians.
The world began to hear of Sheku Kanneh-Mason after he won the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year award, becoming the first Black musician to win the award since its launch in 1978.
Sheku released his debut album, Inspiration, early in 2018, and he’s performed at the BAFTA Awards twice – the only musician to have ever been invited to perform two years in a row.
The young cellist shot to fame when he performed solo cello at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2018, while still a student at the Royal Academy of Music. Two years later, it was reported that more young people were taking up the cello than ever, thanks to ‘the Sheku effect’.
He comes from a big, musical family, which includes prodigious pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason.
