RSNO champions noughties' music
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra has announced that it will be championing music written in the first decade of the 21st century in a new series called Ten Out of 10.
Classic FM’s Orchestra in Scotland has chosen what it believes are the ten greatest works composed between 2000 and 2010, and they will be performed in the series Ten Out of 10, beginning later this month.
The series features works by contemporary composers including James MacMillan, Magnus Lindberg, Oliver Knussen, Esa-Pekka Salonen and John Adams. They have been scheduled to be performed alongside more familiar orchestral works.
The RSNO has created a special website for the Ten Out of 10 series, with information about the composers and works, and audio and video clips.
RSNO Music Director Stéphane Denève comments on the initiative: “I would like to thank our steadily growing Scottish audiences for their loyalty and their curiosity which is allowing me to propose such an ambitious and exciting project like our TEN OUT OF 10 series.’
Among other highlights of the RSNO’s 2010-11 season are performances led by RSNO Conductor Laureate Neeme Järvi and his son Kristjan. Soloists will include Frank Peter Zimmermann, Leila Josefowicz, Nicola Benedetti, Marc André Hamelin, Paul Lewis, John Lill, Imogen Cooper and Stephen Hough.
