Bryn Terfel and Miloš Karadaglić are among the big names announced to feature in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's 2013/14 season, which will also feature three Classic FM presenters.
The RLPO's 2013/14 season has been announced, including a wide range of international guest artists, premieres of new works and celebrations of both the Britten centenary and the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss' birth.
Chief among the big names are Montenegrin guitarist Miloš Karadaglić (performing Rodrigo's Fantasia para un Gentilhombre), Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel and former Police drummer Stewart Copeland, whose Percussion Concerto will receive its premiere performance in an RLPO concert.
Bryn Terfel, along with Andrew Manze, Christian Lindberg and Simon Trpčeski, will be an 'artist in residence', which will see them taking part in the musical life of Liverpool with a variety of concerts. Terfel will lead his own concert which will open the season on September 9th, called 'The Art of Bryn Terfel', taking in a wide range of repertoire.
Classic FM presenters John Suchet, Tim Lihoreau and Jane Jones will all host concerts, talks and discussions throughout the season. Former Royal harpist Catrin Finch will also perform as part of the season's chamber concerts.
The new season announcement comes soon after chief conductor Vasily Petrenko renewed his contract for the foreseeable future in March, with a three-year notice period. He commented: "It’s a great pleasure for me to stay in Liverpool as part of the Liverpool Philharmonic family. We have been on a long and successful journey together in the last seven years, and now there are new horizons ahead."
