Classic FM's John Suchet and Professor Brian Cox have been named as champions of 'Your RNCM', a brand new £3m campaign to fund the transformation of the concert hall at the Royal Northern College of Music.
The campaign will see the RNCM's existing concert hall revamp into a state-of-the-art 750-seat concert venue, incorporating new heating, seating and advanced audio-visual capabilities.
Suchet, who was previously involved with the RNCM's Ludwig Van festival of Beethoven music, commented: "It's good to know that the future of classical music is safe in their hands. I wish the RNCM the very best of luck with the development of the Concert Hall, and look forward to talking Beethoven again in the fabulous new Hall."
Cox, known for his popularisation of science through his various documentaries and for his previous musical work as keyboardist in D:Ream, said: "I am proud to feel part of Manchester’s rich cultural landscape and I love the RNCM building; it is an inspiration to both visitors and students."
"The transformation planned for the Concert Hall is very exciting and I am delighted to support the Your RNCM campaign."
Other initiatives to encourage support for the £3m project include the opportunity to name a seat in the concert hall and to sponsor an individual musical bar from the hall's opening concert in 2014.
