Plácido Domingo's latest operatic role, his career 140th, has led to a Twitter-based competition from the LA Opera.
Verdi's The Two Foscari will mark the 140th operate role for legendary tenor Plácido Domingo at the LA Opera next month. To celebrate the landmark, the company has started a Twitter-based competition.
Twitter users are being asked to describe an operatic character that Domingo has played at some point in his career in less than 140 characters, using the hashtag #PD140. The best description will win two backstage passes to meet the cast.
Domingo himself, now 71, is the general director of the LA Opera. Previous roles there have included Verdi's Simon Boccanegra and Pablo Neruda in a new operatic version of Il Postino. In The Two Foscari, Domingo will tackle the role of Francesco Foscari, Doge of Venice.
The competition closes on September 2nd. You can find the LA Opera Twitter feed here.
