Nicola Benedetti will hold a string players' masterclass and concert at Glasgow's City Halls over the weekend of March 22nd - 24th.
Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti will hold a weekend of string workshops and a concert for young people in Glasgow's City Halls at the end of March, entitled The Benedetti Sessions. The weekend will culminate in a performance of Bartok's Divertimento.
Commenting on the workshops and the concert, Benedetti commented: "I really hope it will be enjoyable for the young people but also for the public who come to join in and watch our performances and sessions."
The Benedetti Sessions are being backed by Glasgow Unesco City of Music, Creative Scotland, the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. 40 outstanding young string players will attend the workshops and perform, while other young string players are able to register online to take part in a performance of the Intermezzo from Cavalliera Rusticana.
Benedetti added: "I have wanted to do something like this for years."
Benedetti was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List at the beginning of the year, in recognition of her work for music education. She is also a patron of Big Noise, an initiative run by Sistema Scotland that provides musical tuition for underprivileged youths.
