Laura Wright rocks pop chart with folk
Laura Wright has entered the Official UK Album Chart at number 24 with her album The Last Rose, proving that British folk music still resonates today.
For her debut album, the 21-year-old singer chose to record brand new arrangements of British folk songs, some more well-known than others, feeling passionately that they need to be preserved:
“These songs have been passed on for generations. I was taught them by my grandmother when I was young but unless we continue that tradition, they will slip into oblivion.”
Formerly a member of the girl group All Angels, Laura is currently studying at the Royal College of Music. She says she now wants to focus on performing live, and in September she will be starting a tour of the UK, performing songs from The Last Rose.
Laura will be touring the following UK locations:
Lancaster Priory, September 16, 7.45pm
Exeter, September 23, 7.45pm
Norwich, October 1, 7.45pm
Newcastle upon Tyne, October 7, 7.45pm
Warwick, October 15, 7.45pm
Llandaff, Cardiff, November 25, 7.45pm
