Pianist James Rhodes spoke to Classic FM's Lucy Coward about his new documentary, 'Notes From The Inside', which takes him and a Steinway piano inside a psychiatric home, where he studied the effects of classical music on some of the residents.
Not only does Rhodes get to hear the stories of the residents he meets, but he also plays the piano for them to see what effect it might have. Rhodes himself is no stranger to psychiatric units, having been in one himself five years ago.
Classic FM's Lucy Coward hears from Rhodes exactly what it was like to take classical music so far out of the concert hall in this revealing interview: "Meeting the guys and playing for them was so much fun, much more relaxing than going out on stage at Queen Elizabeth Hall with critics and everything else."
You can see 'Notes From The Inside' tonight at 10pm on Channel 4. Rhodes is playing a run of concerts at London's Soho Theatre from August 1st until August 6th.
