The Perlman Sound
Classic FM Album of the Week, starting Monday 17 August 2015 after 10am
To celebrate the virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman’s 70th birthday, Warner Classics is releasing Itzhak Perlman — The Complete Warner Recordings, a 59-album set which contains all the recordings he made for EMI Classics (his principal label) and also for Teldec — including some previously unreleased recordings.
To complement the mammoth box set, here's a slightly more affordable three-album box, The Perlman Sound, offering selections of the most popular works and recordings from The Complete Warner Recordings.
Perlman's sound is lustrous, warm and generous, infused with the joy he manifestly gets from playing.
Among the highlights here are Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, J.S. Bach’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, the Beethoven, Brahms, Korngold, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky Violin Concertos as well as delightful encore pieces including the Méditation from Thais, Elgar’s Salut d'amour and Gershwin’s It Ain't Necessarily So.
Every aspect of Perlman's superlative artistry is covered here, complemented by some of the world's greatest accompanists, orchestras and conductors. There could be no better tribute for his landmark birthday.
