'Wherever You Are', also nominated for Best British Single in the 2012 BRIT Awards, is the Classic BRITs Single of the Year, in association with MasterCard.
Gareth Malone and the Military Wives are the winners of the Classic BRITs Single of the Year, in association with MasterCard. It's the first time a single has been nominated in both the Classic BRITs and the BRIT Awards, and the choir have finally taken the crown.
Gareth accepted the award with two of the Military Wives and composer Paul Mealor this evening at the glamorous ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall, presented to him by Olympian Victoria Pendleton.
"I'd like to pay special tribute to a man who has become my favourite British composer, that's Paul Mealor." commented Malone. Mealor replied: "You've got the whole country singing - thank you."
Other nominations in the highly contested category included Pavarotti's 'Nessun dorma', Karl Jenkins' single, 'Adiemus', and the London Philharmonic Orchestra's recording of Barber's 'Adagio for Strings'.
