He was born in London to a Norwegian father and British mother, and apparently began to play the violin at the tender age of three – after hearing a broadcast of Yehudi Menuhin playing Beethoven’s monumental Violin Concerto. He studied at Eton, and Music at Cambridge, before furthering his violin studies at the Royal College of London, with Itzhak Rashkovsky and Shlomo Mintz among his tutors.
Siem has performed all over the world and with top orchestras, including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Charles Dutoit, and the Israel Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta. And he has recorded the Bruch Violin Concerto on Warner Classics with the London Symphony Orchestra, and Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra for Sony Classical.
More recent releases include ‘Under The Stars’, featuring orchestral works with solo violin, and ‘Between the Clouds’, a collection of transcribed works for violin and piano (Itamar Golan) released in 2020.
