The waltzing Dutchman is the winner of the prestigious award for the second year running with his album 'And The Waltz Goes On' on the Decca label.
André Rieu is the winner of the Classic FM Album of the Year in Association with MasterCard with his album And The Waltz Goes On. This is the award chosen by Classic FM listeners, based on an internet vote.
André stormed ahead in the public vote and came out on top, more than 4,000 votes ahead of the second most selected album. Other albums in the category included Russell Watson's Anthems and Hayley Westenra's Paradiso.
"I think this award should not be to me, but to the Waltz," he said, praising the genre's ability to bring joy to his audiences, as well as thanking Sir Anthony Hopkins for the waltz he composed especially for him.
He performed 'Rosen As Dem Suden' with the Johann Strauss Orchestra on stage after the interval at the Royal Albert Hall this evening. He collected the award from Classic FM's very own Alan Titchmarsh.
