André Rieu - Love in Venice

André Rieu celebrates the tenth anniversary of his Maastricht summer concert - in Italian style. John Suchet's Album of the Week, 3 November 2014.

2014 marked the tenth consecutive year of André Rieu's traditional summer evening concerts in Mastricht's historic Vrijthof square. Over five nights in July, Rieu staged an extraordinary spectacle, transforming the site into an open-air concert hall, inviting along guest artists and putting on stunning light shows.

For his theme this year, Rieu chose the romantic city of Venice and played a wide range of Italian hits, including O sole mio, Volare, Santa Lucia, La Danza as well as three brand new tracks dedicated to Venice written by Rieu himself.

Tens of thousands of Rieu's fans from all over the world enjoyed this concert live and now it's been captured on this album in state-of-the-art sound. The music is all spritely and engagingly performed - but fans of Rieu's trademark Viennese waltzes may miss their absence from this particular collection.
