Watch a vibrant live performance from the American cellist, playing passionate music by Grammy Award-winning composer Osvaldo Golijov.
In the second of her live performances for Classic FM, Alisa Weilerstein treats us to a powerful performance of this piece for unaccompanied cello by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov. It's almost hard to believe there's only one instrument playing: the tune makes use of the cello's growling lower notes and the mellow higher register.
Omaramor, written in 1991, is a kind of fantasy on the song My Beloved Buenos Aires by tango singer Carlos Gardel. Hidden within the wandering melody, the song is gradually unveiled through the chords and fragments of the cello tune.
