Tenor Alfie Boe has joined the cast of popular ITV drama Mr Selfridge in its new second series.
Boe, previously a star of the stage version of Les Misérables, will play the part of Richard Chapman, a singer who performs at a charity concert during the First World War, when the second series will be set.
He commented: "I'm a huge fan of Mr Selfridge and am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of the series… I'm looking forward to seeing the set and meeting the cast."
Boe began filming yesterday, and tweeted pictures of himself at work, saying: "Just had an amazing first day on set with [ex-Coronation Street actress] Katherine Kelly, she's got a great voice."
Show executive producer Kate Lewis also told The Sun: "As soon as we introduced the character of Richard Chapman we knew Alfie Boe would be the perfect person to play him… We were delighted when he accepted the role and we're looking forward to welcoming him on set."
The series, which was a big hit with audiences in 2012, stars Jeremy Piven as Mr Selfridge, who masterminded the original Selfridge's department store in London.
