When pop meets the drama of opera: remember the time Michael Ball and Alfie Boe covered Rick Astley’s ’80s hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’? It was… quite something.

A couple of years ago, classical-crossover wizards Michael Ball and Alfie Boe did their own dramatic re-interpretations of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, in front of Rick Astley himself.

Ball went for a dramatic musical theatre interpretation, while Boe played on his classical background in a passionate operatic rendition.

The three singers then joined together in a three-part performance of Astley’s new single, ‘Keep Singing’, backed by a gospel choir.

It was cheesy – but darn entertaining.
